Screenshot (screen capture)
Screenshot or screen capture is a picture taken by a computer user to show the
screen output to others. Screenshots are generally used in a document
or presentation to illustrate steps involved in installing and using a software program.
It can also be used to record a specific problem appearing on the screen.
The screen capture can either be of the entire screen or some selected portions of the
screen. After a screenshot is taken, it is usually loaded into an editor to highlight or
annotate the problem or the point of illustration. The final digital images can be printed, saved
in a document or sent to others as an e-mail attachment. There are atleast two ways to take a screenshot.
Print Screen key
One of the way to capture screen content is to use the Print Screen key found on most of the PC keyboards.
This key might be identified by some of these variations in its labels - Print Screen, Print Scrn, Prnt Scrn, PrtScn, PrtScr, or PrtSc.
On Windows PC, pressing [Print Screen] causes the entire screen content to be captured and stored
in the clipboard. And pressing [Print Screen] while keeping the [Alt] key pressed, captures the currently displayed
Window. To use this screen capture you'll have to open an image editor such as MS Paint, paste the image into it and
do the needed editing. Screenshots may then be saved in different formats for using in documents or sending
them in e-mails. The other way and a more convenient one is to use screen capture utilities.
